Happy Friday, DMV! It’s March 20.

I’ve been trying to say yes to doing fun and random things. My social calendar feels full! I may be going overboard. But it has kept me entertained and helped me focus on the joy in our community.

My family and I went out to dinner this week with Washington Post food critic Elazar Sontag. I always enjoyed talking to him in the office and miss him. It was my first time eating out with a food critic. It was intense.

We looked through the menu, discussed which dishes looked interesting and then handed the reins to Elazar, who ordered everything we wanted and more. We ate a lot. It felt decadent. We even had mocktails.

Then last night, my family and I went to Albert Einstein High School in Kensington to see their musical, “In the Heights.” More than 220 students were involved in the production — including cast, crew and musicians. It was impressive. The school’s student body is more than 40 percent Hispanic or Latino. The musical’s celebration of a Hispanic and Latino community and diversity felt emotional in our current moment.

And they had musicians playing live in an orchestra pit under the stage! Is this the norm for high school musicals? I need to get out more.

But all this yes is exhausting. I’ve run out of steam this week. TGIF. Have a great weekend.

D.C. resident Kara Morrissey, 46, snapped this pic during a hike at the National Arboretum on March 10 with her son when he was home from college for spring break.

“Lenten Roses always remind me of my Mom, who died in 2024, because they were some of the first signs of spring. I love their simple beauty and muted colors,” Kara wrote in her submission.

Samantha Tate sent in this photo she took March 10 from the roof of her office.

“… the bushes had exploded into a bunch of little yellow flowers. I took this shot to see if I could get the Capitol and the flowers together,” Samantha wrote in her submission. “May be forsythia, which my family calls threesythia after a childhood misspeak.”
